Medusa. Limited edition of 50 risograph prints.

2021

Meduse is the French word for jellyfish. In English, of course, it refers to the Greek temptress who turns men into stone. I think the French word is very suitable for the sea creature. Like their namesake, jellyfishes are mesmerising, but dangerous to get too close to. I have been stung by one once (not the one in the photo) and I remember the electric pain as if it happened yesterday.

Getting this print right wasn’t easy- capturing both the electric colour of the jellyfishes and their diaphanous bodies against the depth and changing colour of the sea took a lot of trial and error, but I love how they have come out- the sea goes from purple to blue and back again, and the creatures emerge from the depth, their tentacles barely seen but ready to strike anyone getting too close.

Approach at your peril…
