Come inside. Limited edition of 20 screenprints on paper.
2020
This print, like many of my 2020 work, actually started with a photo from my student days. It was previously called behind the curtains, but I think I like come inside more.
I caught a glimpse of the entrance to an adult shop in Pigalle, glanced through heavy velvet curtains. The focus of the photo was on the barely seen corridor behind the shimmering, out-of-focus drapes in the foreground, and I really loved how it felt like catching a glimpse of a secret place.
From a technical point of view, this print was tricky, as there were lots of nuanced hues in the image, and I wanted to keep as much details as possible. I also wanted the texture of the curtains to come through. Overall it took 7 layers to make it work, including three reds to give depth and texture to the velvet.
I am very pleased with the result, and love how it feels like an invitation to enter a forbidden world..
