Dreaming (again). Limited edition of 20 screenprints on paper.
2022
Another print from the wintry Yorkshire moors earlier this year. The light was starting to fade, the white sheet of snow taking on dreamlike colours.
Back home, I played with that light effect, until I could create a kaleidoscope of dusty pinks and eau-de-nil blues. I wanted that dreamland effect , the moment where nothing is sure, when the cold clarity of the day turn into the unease of the falling night, like waking from a dream, and falling back asleep and dreaming again, in the words of Verlaine.
If you follow my posts on social media, you already know that this wasn’t easy; the first version of the print was a cacophony of clashing colours, when I had hoped for a dusky harmony. I tried adding an extra layer, but the image became more confused (and not in a good way). I could have given up at that point, but the image kept coming back to haunt me, so I started it again, and this time it worked like a dream.
So this print is about dreaming (again) in more than one way.
