2021
My first screenprint of 2021.
I was continuing to sift through old photos of Paris’ red light district when I came across this image of a club. I loved its neon-covered frontage, surrounded by the normal urban landscapes of road signs, and car headlights. I find images like this very interesting, the juxtaposition of normal life and routine and the vacant promise of a good time.
Translating into print was not the easiest. I wanted the red light to glow out of the darkness, and to get a real depth to the colour of the night so I ended up combining a red and a pink layer for the neon and two different blues for the obscurity. The result is a vibrant snapshot of night life, ambiguous and enticing.
